Hi Elias, I love that you started this Substack as a way to share the unique stories of what dogs mean to their people and in many cases are life changing for their people. I run a dog rescue and it is 100% therapy for me. In giving back, I have found my purpose. Every dog I rescue is helping to heal a part of the old trauma from my past. I always say that these dogs are rescuing me, more than I am rescuing them. They each go on to be adopted and they are then sharing their gifts of healing with the people who give them their forever homes. Dogs are amazing! ❤️

It took me many years to fully understand what people mean when they say "they're a rescue, but really they've rescued me." They really are therapeutic in so many ways, some of which are subtle or we take for granted. I rescued Elsa, but she rescues me in small ways every day. Thank you for helping dogs find their people!

A long time ago, in the days of our innocence in Senzoku. My brother and I played with the staff working for the Japanese official living behind us, and of course, their dogs. I would visit the kitchen sometimes, play, and then come meal time, eat the same nutritious meals prepared for their dogs. Rice, meat and vegetales.

I’ve been wanting to tell you the story of how I got my first dog.

My husband and I were living in Chicago. We had a nice little house in a nice little neighborhood. We’d had a late dinner and were on the second floor watching television. I heard a noise and looked towards the hallway where I saw a man with a knife approaching. I hollered at my husband who rushed towards the man while I called 911. My husband managed to get the guy out of the house and the police came quickly. After things settled down I sat in the living room and asked the police officer “Now what do I do? Get a gun?” She said “Don’t get a gun. Get a dog. It will give you what you need and a lot more.” We did get a dog soon after this. My very first dog. The police officer was absolutely right.

We have been dog-less for over 20 years now. Lady our beloved Collie was our first. We, my wife and I have batted around the possibility of bringing another dog into our lives.

Stumbling across “The Dogist” on Instagram has not just reignited, it has added fuel to our search for our next furry child.

Thank you for sharing your love and photos of amazing companions.

I am very happy and excited to find you here. I live on the Central Coast of California and would never expect to see you walking my dog around my small town to take a photo. This way I can participate and hear from others. Thank you so much for highlighting dogs and how they help to make the world a better, kinder place.

Glad I found you. I take a lot of dog pictures as well. So cool to talk to not only the people but making a friend their family friend. I am no way near anything close to your achievement but glad to see someone else taking pics of our new friends. I can now tell my wife that taking pictures of dogs I don't know is crazy. Just crazy about all kinds of dogs. Glad I found you.

Still wondering when you're going to let us know why you fired your entire staff. Must have been because you don't appreciate the ones that helped you succeed. Oh well. Block me.
