Friday Sniff: Puppy Palate Cleanser

A few of my favorite recent photographs

It’s been a long few weeks! Fires in California. A new presidency. A lot of stressful talk in the air. It’s important to take a deep breath, put your dog’s harness on, and go for a good ol’ fashion walkie to work it out of your system.

If you don’t have a doggie, or you just need more doggie (I know you do), here are a few of my favorite photos of the past few weeks that I think you may enjoy.

First up, Wicket, the Goldendoodle. Something about Wicket’s deep stare, his salt-and-pepper hair, and his purple coat just calms my soul. His celebrity doggelganger may be somewhere between Javier Bardem and Eugene Levy. Or is Jake Gyllenhaal more accurate? (I may have had to look up how to spell “Gyllenhaal” )

Next we have Riley, the shepherd/Lab/Pit Bull mix. A rescue from Texas through Hearts & Bones and described by her owner as a “bowling ball.” Riley’s “least favorite thing in the world is horses.” I repeat, NO HORSES. So, if any of you were thinking you’d trot your horse out in front of Riley, just don’t.

This photo of Riley is what I call your classic “harbor seal” shot. Ears tucked back in “sport mode,” body aligned so that foreflippers (paws) aren’t visible, and tail wagging in the back like a hindflipper. Would you throw Riley a mackerel? We can only pray Riley doesn’t run into a seahorse.

Lastly, we have Haha. Yes, that’s right – a Golden Retriever named Haha. What’s so funny? Stop laughing at Haha. Ok, this is getting confusing. I share this photo of Haha as a visual reminder to shake it out.

Ok, that has been your Friday Sniff. I hope it made your day (and hopefully your weekend) a few degrees less angsty. Take it from Wicket the debonair, Riley the harbor seal, and Haha the Golden tornado – everything’s gonna be okay.
